Sometimes we put people on a pedestal. That they can never go wrong. They are always reliable and trustworthy. And then one day that person fails to meet our expectations and our perspective of our relationship with the person crumbles. We start to see differently. Bitterness overtakes us. Bitterness turns to hate.
The vicious cycle of seeing people for who they should be plagued me for a very long time. I always had high expectations of others. First, it was seeing my parents as a kid. Growing up, everything was pleasant... until a financial family crisis happened. For some time, I got disappointed with how my parents handled the situation. But as the years went by and I found out more information about what happened -- the causes and results of their solutions -- I began to see them in a different light. They are as flesh as I am. They are as strong and fragile as I am. They are people and they err, too.

I resolved to end the reign of bitterness in my relationships with family and friends whenever it comes. I've recently grown compassion for others by seeing them as I see myself, not perfect. However, I am encouraged to nurture the relationships knowing that God sees us as perfect in Jesus Christ, He who is perfect.
