I'm blessed with a purpose for having mine still around today. I'm also fortunate to know other moms who I look up to like one of my favorite aunties (see photo). Their presence in whatever way contributes to my development as a person.
For those with heaviness in their hearts because of the absence of a mom or a mother figure, take heart. Losses are not all bad all the time. We learn lessons from situations -- good or bad, happy or painful. Just imagine what Mary of the Bible felt when she was confronted with the news of playing a crucial role in mankind's salvation. Did it feel like a big take away in her life? Was it like an impending loss on her part?
According to Luke 1:38, Mary obliged to the role that God gave her with full trust. It's the essence of being a mother I guess -- letting go of hesitation and stepping in to play the part for what it is. After all, we are all under God's perfect plan and He is in control.
What they do with their lives affect us greatly. We learn from them. And the learning doesn't stop when they leave us in this lifetime.
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
