all have broken parts in our lives. Brokenness is part of our daily living. We encounter failures. We grow regret. We get disappointed. We give up.
In my life, brokenness happened one too many times. The problem was I was trying to repair not my broken self but others' broken selves which I thought would heal my own. I learned recently that before one can repair broken relationships, one needs to fix one's broken self first.
Just a few mornings ago, it was a revelation how my dad shared about his own dad, my late grandfather. He recalled how he had a fully pleasant childhood. Their family was displaced from Manila to Mindanao where my grandfather was manager of a network of the jukebox industry there. Jukebox was big in the 1960s according to my dad. When the industry waned as live bands started to come out playing in bars and clubs, their family returned to Manila where my grandfather settled for a factory manager position. The business was a relative's. He toiled every day in his job but with bitterness and disappointment in his heart according to my dad or at least that's what he thinks his dad felt. The old man also worried about the future as much as he despised his recent past back then. Soon, my grandfather had a stroke probably as a result of the brokenness that he nurtured in his heart.
Now that I have the chance to fix the brokenness in my own life, I'm also looking forward to doing so with my relationships. There is time for everything. One healing at a time as God's time permits...
Matthew 10:29-31
Two sparrows cost only a penny, but not even one of them can die without your Father knowing it. God even knows how many hairs are on your head. So don't be afraid. You are worth much more than many sparrows.
